We had a great time at Melina Hotel. The room (with balcony) was nice, breakfast more than enough and the hotel was situated a little out of the old centre of Fira, but close enough to walk (8 minut walk). The swimmingpool is nice and big and there is plenty of place to lay down and relax. But the thing I liked the most is that the hotel is surounded by many many couloured flowers! Lovely.
By far, the best part about the Melina was the Yannis, the hotel's owner and operator. He was incredibly helpful with suggestions, directions, and calling his personal contacts when we were about to be stranded in Fira due to ferry strikes in Athens. His level of service went above and beyond. I was also a big fan of the breakfast--it was simple but tasted like somebody's mom made it for me. Melina Hotel was also very close to the bus terminal that will get you all over the island.
Melina Hotel was pretty on the outside with a nice pool and while the rooms were equipped with the basics, it lacked some level of comfort (the beds!) and modernity that most folks from the US are accustomed to. One thing to keep in mind when choosing a hotel abroad--the ratings systems seem to differ (i.e. 4 stars abroad is more like 2 stars in the US). However, the excellent service we got outweighed the thin mattresses for sure.
The staff we're very helpful and accommodating and were available all day. Helped with booking taxis and hiring bikes. Gave great advice on excursions and local restaurants. Lovely swimming pool area - great sized pool, secluded location and nice seating area. Location of the hotel was great - in a little lane off of the main road so was easy to get to, 5 mins walk to the main bus station which has buses travelling to all of the island and under 10 minutes walk to the main shopping/restaurant/bars area.
Shower was quite small, although very powerful, so it was no problem at all.
The staff was great-breakfast every morning was amazing!
Our room was huge!
We stayed 3 nights at the Melina and we really enjoyed the hotel. It's cute and clean with a nice greek feel to it. Yannis at the reception is nice and helpful. The location of the hotel is fine (within 5 minutes walk from downtown Fira) and the room we had was non-smoker (which can still be a luxury in Greece these days when you aim for low-cost). All in all, a very pleasant stay.
This is our second time in Melina. The same nice Mr. Ianis recieved us with open arms and a smile. He provided us with two magnificent rooms with balcony and view. He took care of every single desire that we expressed.Helped us to change a flight (by mistake our tickets were to 10 PM instead of 10 AM).Finally he gave us a wonderful Santorini white wine to taste.Besides all this the Hotel is very well located at a walk distance from Fira
The staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the hotel was very pretty (lots of pink flowers in bloom when we were there). It isn't too far of a walk to get into the city. The breakfast was basic but good. Overall a good value.
Although it isn't a far walk, it's definitely not in the center of the city and you do have to walk a bit. For me (a tall person) the upstairs bed loft was kind of cramped and the room layout was a bit cramped.
The hotel locates in a quiet area. The appearance of the hotel building is beautiful. The swimming pool is clean.
The room floor was not very clean. The power of the shower was very weak and the water temperature wasn't balance. The breakfast was served quite slowly if too many people go to eat at the same time. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the center of Fira.
The staff at Melina Hotel are very serviceminded and friendly. The rooms are big, clean and with a big balcony. The poolarea is very nice and clean.
The location of the hotel is ok, it´s rather close to the city, but it is much traffic at the road.
helpful manager clean and tidy breakfast was fine
the view was taken by a huge teleospic lens nothing like the picturesbut a lot better then others we saw.
The hotel is very close to the main busstation of the island, about 5 minutes walk. From there you can easily reach almost every point of interest. Melina hotel is well maintained and in a good and clean shape. The owner and his family are friendly and helpfull in every case, so as we complained abut the uncomfortable matresse, we were given an extra matress on top. The rooms have been cleaned every day and also given new towels. The rooms are nice decorated and have enough space and faclity to put all the stuff for two persons. But the best of all is the large and beautiful clean pool with comfortale white sunbeds and a lot of space to keep your privacy. Sometimes there is even nice loungemusic playing. A very good place to relax or get prepared to explore the island.
The breakfast could be improved ( fresh fruits and yoghurt would have been a nice choice instead of toast and cake all the time) .
The swimming pool was fantastic and the location was great for the price, only a short 10-15 minute walk from Fira where you can find restaurants, bars and the sunset view. Breakfast was pretty good, the rooms were tastefully decorated and fresh.
Be aware that you may need to climb a number of stairs to your room and also walk alongside a narrow, relatively busy road to get to town. Perhaps a problem for those who are less mobile or with children.
